Our Story
The world we live in can be a challenging place, and we often find ourselves in situations that seem to have no way out. But we believe that your current situation is not the place you've come from; it's the place you came from. It is from this place that you can create a community of kinship, one where there is no “us and them,” only “us.” Imagine a circle of compassion and realize that nobody is standing outside that circle. This is a powerful and transformative experience. We know that God does not share in the demonizing in which we all engage, and so we choose to go from here and dismantle the barriers that exclude. We go out to the margins, stand with the poor, the powerless, and the voiceless. Every one of us has had an exquisite mutual experience of knowing what it's like to stand with the easily despised and the readily left out. We stand with those whose dignity has been denied and whose burdens are more than they can bear. We do this so that the demonizing will stop, and the disposable will no longer be thrown away. We believe that kinship is the key to peace, justice, and equality. We go to the margins not to make a difference, but to be changed by the folks at the margins. We do this because we know that no kinship means no peace, no kinship means no justice, no kinship means no equality.
